HAIL THE MOUNTAIN: A bit of the Guatemalan landscape in your desk. This tablet stand is inspired in the various mountains & volcanoes that you can see all around Guatemala. Made from oak, you can expect this stand to be a heavy luxury item to rest your devices, and to steal a lot of compliments

SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY: All of Hesse Woods products are crafted with wood from responsibly managed forests. Making creative use of native species to create applications other than furniture, charcoal or firewood which is the rule of thumb in Guatemala. This adds value to the biodiversity of the region and creates a ripple effect of sustainable investments and opportunities for other forests initiatives
OAK STYLE: Made 100% from oak wood, every product has a different & original pattern, as with fingerprints, the rings give you a truly unique piece of the mighty oak. Stylish, heavy, and durable, oak will make you look good, feel good and make you part owner of a piece from the lovely cloud city, the ‘Quetzal’ land, ALTA VERAPAZ. In Guatemala, oak wood is traditionally used as firewood or charcoal, we saw the opportunity to diversify, breaking the old ways, to generate a new industry
ANCIENT OIL TECHNIQUE: Every product is finished with a natural oil blend, fabricated by our master woodworker. 100% Natural, harm-free & non-toxic protective oil. Every product is given this finish, and please note that all our wood products will be slightly different as each part of the tree is different. From cutting & drying wood to applying our house blend oil finish, we provide a stress-free environment for our wood processing

    WHO WE ARE

Hesse Woods is owned and operated by a German-Guatemalan family with a deep connection to the land and local community, and a passion for traditional European woodworking. Our family migrated from Germany to Guatemala in 1880 and settled in the Alta Verapaz region, home of the elusive and mystical quetzal bird. For generations, we have worked the land alongside the native community and fueled the economic development of the region, making investments in education, health and environmental sustainability.

    WHAT WE DO

To date, we have planted o ver 180,000 pine, cypress, cedar, oak trees, including many from locally-sourced native seeds. Our forests support the biodiversity of the region and help regenerate soil that has been stripped of nutrients from many decades of monoculture farming practices. In this way, they also support the local community, which relies on the land for much of its food. And these are the trees from which our products are made. We use hand selected pieces and take care not to over-harvest.

Our woodworking shop is run by a Master Carpenter, certified in Saxony, Germany. He has designed and built furniture and artisanal wooden crafts in Guatemala for twenty years. During this time he has taught the traditional European skills of his trade to hundreds of local woodworkers. Our shop is fueled by these gifted craftspeople, and partners with other social enterprises in the region to offer our neighbors not just jobs and training, but access to clean water, educational scholarships and other resources they need to sustain and uplift their families.
